Ready for Launch!
Today we are going to outer Space!
The balls on the board represent all the stars in our Milky Way galaxy. Help us assemble the stars in the galaxy! The suns are hidden all over the room, like at an easter egg hunt. Use sticky velcro to connect the balls to the board. Yellow: G class, like our sun, red: the M class red giants and orange: superior stars.
Once the Milky Way is fully assembled, zoom into one very special yellow sun, marked with a smily face. This is the sun in our solar System! We found a good image of the solar system and printed it using www.rasterbator.net. Then we printed the planets with names on it and stuck them each to a piece of card board. It was time assemble the solar system!
Once that was done the big surprise was a blow up NASA space shuttle! We used walkie-talkies to simulate ground control talking to our astronaut. With the guidance of ground control our space ship flew through the atmosphere, passed the asteroid belt, towards the outer edge of our solar system and eventually took a sling shot around another star to come back to earth.
