Shape-shifting Robots for Space Exploration

Alice Agogino’s lab at the University of California, Berkeley and Vytas SunSpiral’s team at the Dynamic Tensegrity Robotics Lab at NASA Ames Research Center are developing what could be the next generation of space exploring robots. And these robots are inspired by a baby toy of all things. They are made of cables and rods and are a type of structure known as a tensegrity structure– which gives them some unique properties that make them pretty robust.
