Creating an inviting setup with a sense of direction but no instruction.

Creating an inviting setup with a sense of direction but no instruction.

When creating a work space, it is very beneficial to make it beautiful and inviting. It’s about creating a space that will offer an opportunity to be inspired. Our environment and nature provide us with simple yet meaningful content that could be used to go on many creative journeys. Especially ones that go through the free mind of a child. The range of shades, shapes, and textures offers endless possibilities.

The creation of the following setup was initiated when I received this beautiful and vibrant little plant from a close friend. The colors and texture were so mesmerizing that it inspired me to provide the kids with the opportunity to appreciate it through their own perspective. I covered the table in a dark colored cloth to allow the vibrant greens and yellows in the plant to pop and making it more inviting.

I created a color pallet using simple markers and colored pencils that I found around the house. The larger the range of shades, the more possibilities there are to create. I made a legend for the shades of colors and some shapes to show them how they look on paper. They can then reference these before starting their work. I provided them with magnifying glasses so that they could investigate the plant more closely before starting their observational drawing. By trusting them with the materials and their own capabilities, I am allowing them to develop a sense of confidence and trust in themselves. When I know and trust that they know how to work in the given setup, I am allowing them to increase their self worth and I am affirming their self respect.

Find something simple that inspires you and continue the inspiration and love train! Your kids will follow along!
