How to Publish a Post - Part 2

Welcome back! We are almost done publishing our first post!

  • Author

Go to the “Author” field and make sure that you are listed as the Author. If not you can choose your name from the dropdown menu.

  • Categories

Click on the “Most Used” Tab in the Categories Field

Choose the Category you want your post to appear in. Select 1 main category (News, Video, Funfiction, Recipe) and 1 optional category like Social Awareness, Science & Nature, Blogs, Adventure, Arts, Transformation, Education.

If your post is mainly text and doesn’t contain a video select “News”. For videos select “Video”; recipes are filed under “Recipes”. All personal writing, poems, original stories etc. are filed under “Funfiction”.

New posts will only show up on the front page if they are assigned to a category that is featured on the front page. At the moment these categories are: News, Video, Funfiction, Cosmic Chants, Recipe (in the sidebar).

  • Tags

Add tags to your post. Choose from the ones that are already available (type the first letters of your tag and already existing tags show up) and create your own ones. This will help to increase the popularity on google. Use general and specific tags.

  • Featured Image

The featured image is the most important asset of your post. Visitors will decide to read your post based on the featured image you use (and the headline).

On the front page: The featured image is the one that pops up as thumbnail and it is featured in the slider.

In the post: The featured image is the top picture of your post. Posts that are assigned to the category “Video” will not display the featured image on top of the post body.

Add the featured picture by clicking on “Set featured image” and either “upload: or select from the “Media Library”. ATTENTION!!! THE FEATURED IMAGE NEEDS TO BE SIZED TO 700 x 400 Pixels. If you use a different size the slider will not properly display the image.

It is important to use media that is free to use. You can find those on Pixabay.com.

  • Add Media

If you want to add additional images inside your post click on “Add Media” on top of the Editor Window. You can choose between uploading your own images or selecting an image that is already in the Media Library. Click on the image you would like to insert into your post and hit “Insert into post” on the right bottom. The image will show be automatically scaled to a width of 300 pixels. If you want to change the size of it, click on the image until the edit bar appears.

Click on the little pen and the Edit Image Window opens up. Select your preferences.

Caption: add text here to show up under your image.

Display Settings: indicates where the image is going to be placed and at what size. If you

  • Publishing

In the right hand top corner you will find the “Publish” options.

When you are ready to Publish right away click on “Publish” and you are done!

If you need to make your post accessible to those only who have a password for it, change the Visibility to “Password protected”.

The date field at the bottom indicates the time you want the article to be dated. This is very helpful if you don’t want your post to show up in the front page slider. To do so insert a date before the last 5 posts. If you want to publish your post in the future, choose the respective date and click on OK. Hit “Publish”. YEY!

Click on “View Post” to check your post! That’s it!!!
