🌾 From Drought to Prosperity | The Incredible Journey of Maharashtra’s Water & Farmer Revolutions 💧🚜
In 2015, rural Maharashtra faced one of its worst droughts in history. Water scarcity devastated villages — children dropped out of school, families migrated, and entire communities suffered. But from this crisis emerged an extraordinary people’s movement that continues to transform the state.
✨ Enter Paani Foundation, co-founded by Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao, using the science of watershed development and the power of voluntary labor (shramdaan), thousands of villages trained with Paani Foundation and participated in the Water Cup (2016-2019). They united to create 550 billion litres of water storage capacity—enough to fill 55 million tankers!
💪 This collective effort birthed a second wave of transformation in 2022: the Satyamev Jayate Farmer Cup—a one-of-a-kind group farming competition promoting sustainable agriculture, chemical-free farming, and collective prosperity. 👩🌾 Women farmers took the lead. Knowledge spread through the Digital Farming School. Farmer groups thrived, profits doubled, and despair was replaced by hope, unity, and abundance.
📈 Highlights: Water Cup created 550 billion litres/year of water storage Over 4300 farmer groups formed 1900+ all-women farming groups by 2024 Farmers reported incomes up to ₹2.25 lakh per acre 50,000+ farmers impacted by 2025 🔥 Now, in 2026, the Farmer Cup goes state-wide across Maharashtra — giving every farmer the chance to thrive! 🎥 Watch now to witness how community-led water conservation and sustainable farming turned drought-stricken villages into models of prosperity. This is not just a story — it’s a people’s movement for rural prosperity! #paanifoundation #watercup #FarmerCup
