Our breath was taken away by the scenic route leading from Western Austria via the Swiss Alps to Lake Como.
Lake Como, situated in Lombardy, is Italy’s third-largest lake, with an area of 56 sq miles.
Since Roman times Lake Como has drawn tourists and celebrities alike to its opal blue shores.
Matthew Bellamy, John Kerry, Madonna, George Clooney, Gianni Versace, Ronaldinho, Sylvester Stallone and many others have or have had houses here.
We were impressed by the purity of the air and the water and the quaint towns at its shore, with road so narrow that barley fit very small Italian cars.
